Site Map Generator

Building a site map...continued...

OK, so what have we got here? The Xenu HTML report includes:

  • Broken links, ordered by link
  • Broken links, ordered by page
  • List of redirected URLs
  • List of ftp and gopher URLs
  • List of valid URLs you can submit to a search engine
  • Site Map of HTML pages with a Title
  • Orphan files
  • Statistics for managers

We also now have details of every file on your site. If you're a bit nifty with Excel, you can save the report in CSV format and manipulate it to your heart's content.

Creating a site map using the Xenu HTML Report

  1. Download this zip file unzip the file and read the notes before you start
  2. From the Xenu Report, copy the source code from View>Source
  3. Paste the source code into the word document you downloaded
  4. Hit Control+x (control and x)
  5. Paste the resulting code into your site template in your HTML editor and save it as site-map.html
  6. Upload site-map.html to your route directory
  7. Ensure you create a link to site-map.html from your index page at the very least, and ideally from all pages on your site.
  8. That's it, you're done!
